Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)

WASH is an acronym that stands for “water, sanitation and hygiene”. Universal, affordable and sustainable access to WASH is a key public health issue within international development and is the focus of Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6).

WASH aims to provide education, awareness, and funding to supply clean drinking water and sanitation education to schools and children in underdeveloped regions. Around the globe, nearly 1,000 children die everyday due to a lack of safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene.

These three disciplines—Water Access, Sanitation, and Hygiene—commonly referred to as “WASH,” can virtually eliminate waterborne diseases. The three components of WASH are grouped together because of their interdependence; one cannot be fully realized without the other. We promote access to good drinking water for all, high standard of sanitation and hygiene among the people both at facility level and their environment.
